Reflecting on a year without weddings.
Firstly and most importantly we want to say thank you. Whether your read our blogs, our emails, you follow us on instagram, you’re a supplier we work with, you’re one of our long-term couples or you’ve joined the W&W family this year, thank you. We have had so much support from our community this year in the form of kind messages and feedback, calls to check in that we’re OK, even gifts. We couldn’t have imagined how wonderful you’d all be to us at a time when you’re facing huge challenges yourself. So, THANK YOU.
This year for the first time in 5 years for Wiskow & White, we didn’t create a single wedding. Instead we witnessed so many wonderful couples go through heartbreak and extremely tough decision making again and again.
Our hearts ached for our couples, their friends and family, for ourselves and our fellow suppliers. We mourned what could have been as we’d imagined those weddings, moment by moment. We mourned the loss of various parts of our business.
If you know us, you’ll know we’re not the type for drama or exaggeration but we work hard and after literally putting blood, sweat and tears into our business for 5 years, 2020 was going to be THE year. But instead we were faced with rescheduling over 20 weddings with urgency and hardly any notice at all. Something of course we’d never done before.
We were also faced with the insurmountable shock and grief that our couples were facing. We could never feel exactly what they felt but we felt for them. And we still do.
Then there’s the shock and grief of friends, colleagues and suppliers that have seen huge business challenges. But all of whom have faced this with pure grace, putting couples needs above their own.
Despite the heartbreak and tough working conditions for us all this year, we’re all still here and we’re all ready for next year, right?
2021 is the year we celebrate, we appreciate and we congratulate everyone for getting through those tough patches and carrying the weight of worry for so long. 2021 crew, this is our year.
At Wiskow & White we’re stronger and more organised than ever before. We’ve worked harder this year than ever. We’ve reviewed almost every aspect of our business, built stronger relationships with suppliers and overhauled our internal team and processes. Our bonds with our 2020 couples are unbreakable (yes that’s right guys, you’ve got us for life!) and our love of the job has grown to new heights.
We’ve come up with new, innovative ideas during this time like White Vines - a stationery brand that sits alongside our wedding design and styling. And we can’t wait to share our new business, La Lista with you soon. Thank you to those that have already supported these new ventures.
So despite the rollercoaster, we never want to forget 2020 and the lessons, the love and the fight. Thank you for making us realise that love is unstoppable, that we can handle anything and that things always work out much better than you imagine.
To our 2021 couples, your weddings will truly be better than you can imagine and we can’t wait for you to experience it. As I’ve always promised, the sunset will be worth the wait.
