Coronavirus - May 2020

Over the last few months we’ve been having very real, open and transparent conversations with our couples, aiding them in postponing their weddings. These realistic and timely conversations have meant that our couples and their weddings have been relatively unscathed and stress eased. We continue to try and remain as realistic as possible…

With the news that Italy is ‘opening up’ from 3 June, we wanted to share our delight and our opinion on how this affects you and your weddings. The individual country strategies for dealing with and recovering from coronavirus are complicated and will offer a range of possibilities when it comes to having foreign weddings in Italy.

Here’s what we know; As of 3rd June, Italy will open its borders for travel. Social distancing measures remain strictly in place. Currently, weddings are not permitted.

This is extremely positive news for the country, its tourism and wedding communities. It’s exciting and you might be thinking that a wedding could even take place in Italy this year. While we’re still so hopeful for this, we don’t think it’s likely that weddings as we know them, will be possible. Here’s why.

Right now, the UK government and many others are advising against all but essential travel worldwide. Even with Italy opening up its borders, we need governments and airlines to open up too.

It’s risky. I think it’s fair to say that there is a very real risk to anyone that chooses to travel, whether you’re fit and healthy, or have any underlying health conditions. Travel also comes with the risk of getting stuck in a country again and made to quarantine if there is another major coronavirus outbreak. This of course goes for you, and your guests.

Finally, with social distancing and mask wearing laws in place…weddings just won’t be the same.

If you would like to discuss this further, please get in touch with us. In the meantime, know that Danielle, our friends and colleagues are enjoying a little more freedom and that Italy is on the way back to its best.
